Quartzite

  • $$$$-$$$$$
  • Variety of Options: 3
  • Characteristics:
    • Upscale option that gives a high end, expensive look due to its unique appearance
    • Popular because of its clarity. Some options are translucent which allows for adding backlighting behind the stone to add depth and flair
    • Heat resistant
    • Can be used outdoors with direct sunlight and weather exposure
    • Edge options limited only to Eased
    • Requires sealer
    • Requires support for overhangs over 9 inches
    • No manufacturer warranty

Quartz

  • $$-$$$
  • Variety of Options: 4
  • Characteristics:
    • Highest design consistency – samples, colors, density, and strength are consistent so there is no need to go to a slab yard, you can pick out your slab right from the showroom!
    • No maintenance! No sealing, staining, and they are scratch resistant
    • More edge options than anything else
    • Huge selection of colors and designs
    • Can have up to 16 inches of overhang without additional support
    • Sensitive to heat
    • Meant for interior use, though there are some options for outdoors.

Granite / Natural Stone

  • $-$$$$
  • Variety of Options: 5
  • Characteristics:
    • One of a kind, each slab is entirely unique
    • Offers the most color and pattern options
    • Many edge options
    • Can be used outside
    • Most suitable for fireplaces (due to its heat resistance)
    • Wide price range
    • Must select your slab at a stone yard
    • Requires sealer
    • Requires additional support for overhangs over 9 inches
    • No manufacturer warranties

Soapstone

  • $$-$$$
  • Variety of Options: 2
  • Characteristics:
    • Commonly found in traditional Italian-style kitchens
    • Natural patina (wears over time)
    • Soft and warm to the touch
    • Scratches easier than other materials
    • Needs to be sealed and oiled
    • Limited range of design options

Marble

  • $-$$
  • Variety of Options: 2
  • Characteristics:
    • Bright, typically white
    • Distinct grain patterns (white, gray, and black)
    • Very soft surface
    • Heat resistant
    • Scratches more easily than other materials
    • Requires frequent sealer
    • Requires additional support for overhangs over 9 inches
    • Stains more easily than other materials
    • Limited range of design options

Solid Surface 

  • $$-$$$
  • Variety of Options: 2
  • Characteristics:
    • Much softer surface than stone
    • Warm to the touch
    • Non-porous surface
    • Can have integrated/seamless sinks (built straight into countertops)
    • Can have cove backsplash (one piece with no seams)
    • Best seams
    • Can be used outdoors
    • Sensitive to heat – require hot pads or trivets
    • Can scratch but can be easily repaired and sanded
